A Deeper Look at Writing…

“A writer is a person who cares what words mean, what they say, how they say it. Writers know words are their way towards truth and freedom, and so they use them with care, with thought, with fear, with delight. By using words well they strengthen their souls. Story-tellers and poets spend their lives learning that skill and art of using words well. And their words make the souls of their readers stronger, brighter, deeper.”
— Ursula K. Le Guin

Why is the written word so powerful?

While spoken words evaporate like mist, the written word is an opportunity to leave your mark, just like the ancient ones who left their etchings on the walls of the caves. Writing is an act of the now gifting the ever after.

Why do we place such a value on the written word?

Whether referring to the subject line of an email to your customers, the stanza of a poem to your lover, or the first chapter of your new book, writing is a way for the Infinite to be made visible—to be clothed in words.

At a deeper level, what does writing tell us about ourselves?

Writing is a way of “showing up” in life; it’s a proclamation of our willingness to be more fully involved, to say, “I am here. And I have something to say.” Whether we write one word or 50,000, each one is a chance to reach a hand outward… to be more intimately connected to the world.

Why does writing matter now?

Words have resonance. Beyond our cognitive and intellectual understanding of them, words have the power to change us for the better. When we write, read, or speak them out loud, words reverberate—sending their potential for healing and enlightenment in all directions.

Who are “writers” and what do writers do?  Expanding the field of possibilities…

When referring to writers, by way of conditioning we often think of them as authors of published books or perhaps magazine articles. However, given the vast array of written material that is put to use every day for business, personal, and creative purposes, the term “writer” rightfully applies to millions of us!

During the 8-week Write of Passage journey, you may discover that you would like to expand your writing to include some of the following:

blogs

website copy

newsletters

screenplays

speeches

poetry

marketing copy*

workbooks

training manuals

journaling

* brochures, media kits, ads, flyers, postcards, product descriptions, event descriptions, liner notes, messaging for email campaigns and product launches

Are you ready to claim your identity as a writer? If you’re not quite ready now, by the time Write of Passage comes to a close, we believe you will be then.
